I recently bought a tattoo kit, I had been wanting one for a very long time, but could never afford to get one. Finally was able to, and I love it so much. I have already been playing around with it on grapefruits, but I keep running into basic problems. I do plan on either going to tattoo school in Detroit Michigan, or getting an apprenticship somewhere, but in the mean time I cant afford all that money. Both of those options for someone who has alot of bills is extremly expensive.

I was wondering if anyone has bought any books or DVDs that I should definatly check out to learn the basics and learn how to practice in the mean time before I go and learn from pros. I mean even when you go to school if you already know the basics, its easier for you to learn everything else.

Please only tell me things that will help me out, not things that I already know like I shouldnt be tattooing anyone or I shouldnt have bought the kit. Other than that, I appreciate any real advice. Thanks.
The problems I am running into is not knowing how to properly care for my machine, not knowing how to replace parts when needed, not knowing what to practice on and how to practice like what type of designs to practice, etc. I am trying to learn the basics that is it.

And the guy who said to watch Miami Ink, dude you have got to be dumb as hell. That show sucked, they did a better job on Inked, either way neither show actually showed anything I could learn by.
I live in central Texas, Im just more than willing to go all the way to Detroit to learn from pros since most of the tattoo guys that are around here either dont want to teach me, even though Id pay them, or they all suck as tattooist them selves.
